"Conoscevo Claudio Fava, la sua storia, la sua sensibilità, il suo impegno politico e sociale; conoscevo la storia del padre Giuseppe, vittima della mafia, una delle piaghe più dilanianti del nostro paese. Conoscevo Alda Merini, “la poetessa dei navigli”, la drammaticità della sua esistenza; anch’io, come tanti, mi sono emozionato e commosso nel sentirla leggere i suoi appassionati versi. Dopo aver letto il testo di Claudio, “La pazza della porta accanto”, un ritratto giovanile, intimo e struggente della grande poetessa, ho avvertito immediatamente la necessità, direi l’urgenza, di metterlo in scena. Un testo che si sviluppa all’interno di un ospedale psichiatrico e che ripercorre la drammatica esperienza della Merini. Erano gli anni in cui la parola “depressione” non si conosceva e chi soffriva di questa malattia veniva definito pazzo. Erano anche gli anni in cui negli ospedali psichiatrici praticavano l’elettroshock e i bagni nell’acqua gelata. È in questa particolare dimensione alienante che la protagonista si trova a condividere le giornate con le altre ma- late alle quali offre spontaneamente i suoi versi, ma soprattutto è il luogo dove nasce un’appassionante storia d’amore fra lei e un giovane paziente”. E' venuto a mancare stanotte Mons. Carmelo Tidona, parroco della Cattedrale di San Giovanni Battista a Ragusa. Riportiamo il comunicato ufficiale:
"La Cattedrale San Giovanni Battista, nella fede in Cristo, Resurrezione e vita, annuncia che oggi 14 Agosto 2014, l’amatissimo Parroco Mons. Carmelo Tidona, a seguito di una breve ma intensa sofferenza vissuta negli ultimi mesi, è tornato alla casa del Padre.
Mons. Tidona, 75 anni lo scorso maggio, era Parroco della Cattedrale dal 1993 succedendo al Can. Giovanni Occhipinti, è stato Vicario Generale della Diocesi di Ragusa dal 1983 al 2002 nonché Presidente della Fondazione San Giovanni Battista. Lo scorso 15 Agosto aveva celebrato il suo 50° anniversario di sacerdozio. Giornalista, ha collaborato per diversi anni alla nascita e allo sviluppo del quindicinale diocesano "Insieme". Nei suoi vent'anni di parrocato, si è prodigato non solo nella sua principale funzione di guida spirituale della comunità, ma anche nella promozione di importanti iniziative di fede, formazione, crescita e cultura, nonchè impegnato nella salvaguardia e della promozione dei beni culturali della Cattedrale e nella realizzazione di nuove strutture di elevata importanza. Ricordiamo ad esempio diversi interventi di manutenzione straordinaria della Chiesa, l'acquisizione di Palazzo Garofalo e la sua trasformazione in Museo della Cattedrale e polo culturale d'eccellenza, il restauro del Coro Ligneo dell’altare e del simulacro processionale di San Giovanni Battista, nonchè la riqualificazione e recente apertura del centro "V. Bachelet" di Marina di Ragusa. Per queste e altre iniziative, ha saputo coinvolgere attivamente decine di giovani, impegnati sotto diverse forme di collaborazione con la Cattedrale e le sue strutture. Nel 2010, ha favorito la nascita di un nuovo comitato atto a riorganizzare e riqualificare i festeggiamenti annuali di San Giovanni Battista.
La Camera ardente sarà allestita sabato mattina 16 Agosto, nella Chiesa Cattedrale, a partire dalle ore 9 a cui seguiranno i funerali alle 11, celebrati dal Vescovo di Ragusa, Mons. Paolo Urso e concelebrati dai sacerdoti della diocesi".
